Fennario - 5.7.10

w/ Paramedic!, Spraynard, and Everyone Everywhere

the third show of the year took place at Fennario in West Chester. as lots of people in the West Chester community know, Fennario shows can sometimes be a major bummer. this particular show was anything but. endless homies, endless good vibes, endless good bands (well, not endless, two super good bands).

this was Spraynard and Paramedic!'s split 7" release show (for the West Chester chapter, that is). somehow Paramedic! (and Jordan) beat us to West Chester, so we didn't get to explain the insaneness (in a good way) that is Newly. for all that don't know, Newly is the sound man/bouncer/all around show-runner at Fennario. he's awesome.

a good amount of kids from Lehigh Valley showed up, which was more than heartwarming. every kid i've met from the valley have been instant best friends. while we waited on the rest of Everyone Everywhere to show up (or for Newly to yell at us to start), we decided to go get pita pit to settle our growling stomachs (i brown bagged it, so i was content with my vegetarian dumplings from Great Pumpkin). after hearing people complain about how expensive pita pit is, we headed back to the venue where Paramedic! began to set up their stuff.

i can't describe how stoked i was to see Paramedic!... but if i had to, VERY. Spraynard has become very good friends with these 3 hoodlums over the past couple of months, and any amount of time i get to spend with them is always cherished. if you haven't heard them, you're truly missing out. although i'm bummed that so many lehigh valley kids have moved to philly, i am definitely psyched at the same time considering all of the amazing bands they seem to form in the city. Paramedic! to me is the cream of the crop. they're a perfect blend of pop-punk and indie-ish bands. Charlie's voice is one of my favorite in punk rock right now and now with Zia singing more recently, it pulls the whole bands sound together super well. LOVE IT! no need to mention, they played amazingly.

although i love Paramedic!, they are a fairly aggro group of people. in the middle of their set, a lot of heated emotions between them and Jordan came out in the open. Jordan had been heckling them the entire set, and after making a comment about Charlie's mother, Paramedic! had had enough. Jordan charged the stage and a very awkward and honestly shocking fight broke out. Chris from Square of Opposition Records also tried to get involved in the brawl, but Newly quick put him in his place. it was a super strange and uncomfortable instance and i'd rather not recall it. i'll leave you with a picture anyways to get an idea.

Spraynard played next. although i said i won't recap our sets, i would like to say that this was one of the most important Spraynard shows to me personally. i feel like Spraynard's main intention of starting the band was to continue bringing kids in our scene together as well as doing our best to expand said community. this show (being at one of the most notoriously crappy venues in west chester) really showed me that we're accomplishing that in at least a small manner. thanks to all of our friends who came out and joined in on the fun. i don't remember our set so YEAH.

after us was Everyone Everywhere. this was actually Everyone Everywhere's full length release show. their record is so far (in my opinion) the best thing that a Philly band has ever put out. if you think i'm wrong or exaggerating, go listen to it and try not to agree. their set was nothing short of incredible considering it was almost the whole full length. they played my favorite song off of the record called Fld Ovr. it's the undoubtable hit. these guys are also the funniest/raddest people i know on the planet. if you for some reason haven't checked them out, please do so. you won't regret it dawg.

after the show we all took a trip to the west chester diner. this is becoming a fairly frequent tradition for west chester shows, and i hope it keeps up. many stories of Tommy's Staples employee experience were shared. all of them boring yet side-splittingly funny.

i should start making these shorter considering i have to do two more... right. now.

stay sweaty!
