The Vet - 5.15.10

Berwyn, PA

w/ Spraynard, The Drug War, Cobra Lung, and The Cool Ranchers

i got a text early Friday morning from Andrew asking if we wanted to play his house (The Vet) later that night. considering all 3 of us already had off of work and were planning on going to that show anyways, i said "heeeeellllll yeah."

Andrew's house shows are always really fun, so i was super excited to be a part of this one. for some reason the attendance is usually fairly low, but i think it's because kids don't understand that Berwyn is like 10 minutes from West Chester. so yeah, anyone reading this, BERWYN IS ONLY TEN MINUTES FROM WEST CHESTER! it's a small space though, so either way it's bound to be a good time.

The Cool Ranchers were the first to play. they are a new band from Paoli (what?!) with a few kids that go to Conestoga and Stefan who goes to Malvern Prep. we befriended Stefan through the West Chester Message Board and were beyond stoked when we heard he was starting a band. i think i'm recording them extremely soon, so keep an eye out for that. i love watching them play because their songs are really short and so is their set. they play a bad ass screeching weasel cover as well (although they preface it with saying that Ben Weasel is an asshole... NICE!). i hope to see them on a lot more shows in the future.

next was The Drug War. these guys are from philly and they play really loud pop punk similar to Small Brown Bike with suuuper aggressive vocals. i've been listening to their demo ever since i saw them. not only are they super nice guys, but their set was awesome. i love bands that manage to sound like an orchestra of sound even with just three people. it was cool that Andrew put them on this show, they were a good fit and i'm glad more west chester kids are getting exposed to more philly bands.

after them, Cobra Lung stepped up to the plate. i have known Jim from Cobra Lung for a while now since he books the Terrordome and i originally met him in Harrisburg at a Scrapple Fest. for some reason i had never seen his band play and i was super excited. they literally surpassed my expectations. not only was the lead singer the funniest dude on the planet, but the songs were so good! it reminded me a lot of a current Minor Threat meets Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, which is a concoction for my perfect band. they play the Terrordome all the time, so if you haven't seen them, go see em' right now.

Spraynard
played last and it was a super fun time. it's really amazing that even though we play West Chester every 2 seconds, our friends will still come out and have a good time. thanks to everybody who came. i can't thank the chadds ford kids for coming out and hanging out every week... chadds ford is far! i also decided i'm not going to post our set lists anymore... i have a terrible memory.

after the show, a handful of us headed to ACME to get ingredients for the intoxicating Senor Mark (rice, tofu, salsa, corn, and beans. INCREDIBLE!). we promptly made the dish at my apartment soon after, and good vibes were had by all. i am really happy with the current state of our scene right now. amazing kids with amazing stories and amazing outlooks on life.

stay sweaty!
